A Mans Guide to Face Lifts

Over time, even the most handsome face with the best bone structure, will succumb to gravity.

Definition will deteriorate and lines will appear. That is the inevitable consequence of ageing. But there are things which can be done to help turn back the clock and create a more toned and youthful appearance. These procedures fall within the domain of ‘facelifts’, which can be both surgical and non surgical.

What are facelifts and what are they used to treat?

Facelifts are used to treat the wrinkling and sagging of the human face. These days the range of procedures often described as facelifts is varied, including both surgical and non surgical procedures, but the overall aim remains the same; to restore a more youthful look to the face.

  • Surgical facelifts involve using surgery to ‘tighten’ the facial skin.
  • This is achieved by making incisions around the hairline, then pulling back the loose skin
  • When this is stitched in place the facial skin has a more ‘tight’ and toned appearance and many lines may be gone
  • This procedure is a quite intrusive and requires general anaesthetic
  • More specific areas can be targeted in smaller procedures
  • For many men the idea of surgery doesn’t hold much appeal and it is true that for men wrinkles are often not as big a problem as they are for women. So many men prefer to have something less invasive or non surgical performed. These procedures can include things like a skin peel.
  • A skin peel involves coating the skin with a fine layer of an acid of some kind
  • This literally burns off the outer layer of the epidermis
  • When the outer layer is gone the skin heals and the result is a fresher looking face with less signs of wrinkles
  • Even less intrusive is things like facial masks which can help replenish the skin and minimise wrinkles as well as toning and tightening
  • Exercising facial muscles can help firm up the face and minimise the appearance of wrinkles and there are several programs designed to help with facial exercises, that are cheap and easy to learn

The fact is that most men don’t do a lot of work to preserve their skin and many of the visible signs of ageing can be minimised by using good moisturisers daily and having a well thought out skin care routine.

Why have a facelift?

For many men the onset of visible ageing is of great concern. They may feel young on the inside, but their face is starting to wrinkle and sag as part of the normal ageing process. In many cases men have not utilised things like moisturisers and do not regularly take care of their skin to the same level as women do, so a lot of the changes in their skin may have been to some degree preventable or at least able to be minimised. All men who care about their appearances should be seeking out advice on how best to maintain healthy, youthful skin. But for those who are concerned by ageing and want to achieve a more youthful appearance again, a facelift whether it involves invasive surgery or not, is an option to consider. As with any procedure make sure you do your research and seek out a suitably qualified and experienced professional.
