Male Tattoo removal
Tattoos which seemed like a fabulous idea when you were drunk or very young can become less attractive and a burden later in life. In fact,
they may have been a burden as soon as the effects of alcohol wore off! Tattoo removal can be done for aesthetic reasons, but also may be required to create a professional appearance, or even to re-work a tattoo. But how effective and safe is tattoo removal?
Tattoo removal in men
Tattoos can now be removed very effectively with lasers. The degree of success in returning skin to its original pre-tattoo condition depends on a number of factors.
- Professional tattoos are much harder to completely remove than amateur ones, which may be removed in one or two laser sessions
- Professional tattoos may take many sessions with a laser to remove, and are more likely to leave some scarring or skin discolouration, although many are removed completely
- Different types of laser remove different colours more effectively, and a combination of two lasers may be needed to remove multi – coloured tattoos (for example the ruby laser will remove green tattoos)
- Scarring is uncommon, most tattoos can be removed very effectively
- Cost of laser tattoo removal starts at around $225 per treatment. The number of treatments required depends on the size and degree of professionalism of the tattoo, and may be as few as one or as many as twenty
- Lasers remove tattoo ink by literally shattering the ink particles under the skin, allowing the body’s own immune system to clean up the smaller particles
- The lasers used are not attracted to skin, so skin damage during the process is not common, although the removal process may require some settling time after the procedure to allow the body to remove the shattered ink
- The lasers used are q-switched lasers. These emit very short pulses of very high energy light that shatters the tattoo ink particles while being least likely to cause skin damage
- The procedure is always done with the use of local anaesthetic, as it is very painful without this. It must be done by trained doctors, and some very extensive tattoo removal may even require general anaesthetic
- The process is also commonly used to fade or remove part of a tattoo for re-tattooing
Removal of tattoos is now a generally safe, effective procedure, but it must be carried out by trained doctors with the correct equipment (q-switched lasers of differing wavelengths for different colours) for maximum benefit.
Effective tattoo removal for men
Removal of tattoos is carried out for a number of reasons, including social and professional inappropriateness of some tattoos in some contexts, to remove a no longer wanted tattoo, or to remove part of a tattoo for re-doing. Q-switched lasers are the safest and most effective way of doing this, and leave minimal scarring for maximum results. Always ensure that the laser technician is a suitably qualified and trained medical professional.
